School Direct Initial Teacher Training

The schools that support the School Direct programme share our vision and commitment to providing first class, Catholic, Initial Teacher Training (ITT).  In addition to equipping trainees with the skills and knowledge required to teach their subject, we aim to provide them with the opportunity to appreciate the distinct nature of working as part of a Catholic community.

Working in an academic collaborative partnership with the University of Cumbria we have designed an exciting programme that combines school placement experiences across our large partnership of schools with training and development opportunities at both the Lancaster Campus of
the University and our Preston based Training Centre.

Although it is not necessary for trainees to be Catholic, a key aspect of our partnership is the provision of the opportunity to experience high quality teacher training within an environment based on Catholic values and ethos.

School Direct is a way of training teachers, which puts schools at the heart of the process.  This route, PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), for primary, secondary and sixth form teachers, is ideal if you want to spend most of your time in school while you train.
