Teacher Training FAQ

Recruiting now - Choose the Catholic Teaching Alliance for your PGCE course starting next September.
The School Direct train to teach course is a 1 year full-time route into teaching delivered in partnership with the University of Cumbria. The majority of time on our PGCE courses is spent on placement in our alliance schools.

You can choose to train to be a teacher with the Catholic Teaching Alliance (North) by age range and/or location:
  • General Primary (5-11 years) based in Preston 
  • Early Primary (3-7 years) based in Preston 
  • Secondary (11-16 years) based in Preston
  • Secondary (11-16 years) based in Blackburn
  • Secondary with post 16 (14-19 years) based in Preston.

What is the deadline for applications?
We will accept applications for our teacher training courses up until the course is closed or mid-July. Contact us to see how many places are available in your subject.

What about the Literacy and Numeracy Skills Tests for teachers?
For courses starting after April 2020, candidates no longer need to take professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy before beginning teacher training.
